TIME: Each camp day starts at 9 AM and ends at 5 PM.

Intro Team Policy Debate Camp: Aug 7–9, 2017 (9 AM–5 PM) (Min: 12/Max: 16)

Location: St. Martin's Lutheran Church, 1123 Burney Rd., Sugar Land, TX 77498
Early Signup Price: (by May 15): $190*
Regular Signup Price: (after May 15): $210*
Eligibility: Ages 12* to 18 (Note: NCFCA requires new students be 13 by September 1st to compete)

Our Intro to Debate Camp helps new students take a gentle and successful first step into the world of competitive debate. This innovative debate camp leaves campers not only excited about debate but actually knowing how to debate!

While our camp focuses primarily on Team Policy, debaters will also learn about the basics of Lincoln-Douglas values debate. (Team Policy, or TP, is a two-on-two debate between teams who generally advocate for and against policy changes using evidence and critical thinking skills; Lincoln-Douglas, or LD, is a one-on-one debate between students who advocate for different values or ideas).

Students will engage in activities such as “fun debates” where they’ll debate easy-to-grasp concepts, group discussions about the debate topic, master the concept of basic and proper debate, and all, of course, with Integrity Communication’s key emphases on ethical and respectful argumentation and being able to communicate with any audience. Students will also learn about key issues of U.S. government and foreign policy (depending on the TP resolution topic). This camp is best for new NCFCA or Stoa debaters, Jr. High and High School, Classical Conversations, World View, and 4H students! All parents may attend free of charge!

REQUIRED CAMP RESOURCES: Each camper will need to purchase Blue Book NCFCA TP Edition from www.monumentpublishing.com/store/  ($29). This should be available for purchase in the summer and we will send updates on its availability. (You will also use this throughout the year!)

Private Intermediate/Advanced Team Policy Debate Camp: Aug 14–16, 2017

Location: Living Water Ranch, Boerne, TX 78006
Camp Price: $150

Overnight Room/Board: $60

Integrity Communication emphasizes ethical argumentation and being able to communicate with any audience. Our Advanced TP camp gives debaters an opportunity to get an in-depth look at the policy NCFCA resolution, to learn advanced TP theory, to construct cases with relevant evidence based on logical principles, and to learn the arts of advanced cross examination, impacting points effectively, and advanced refutation/rebuttal skills including next-level argumentation.

Students will use critical thinking and practice these skills through a number of in-camp activities in which they will receive feedback and training. Students will also compete in a mini Practice Debate Tournament.

A few weeks before camp, students will be given the assignment to write their own case and write a few negative briefs. This will allow for a high level of discussion on the resolution and advanced debate theory. All parents may attend free of charge!

Overnight Room/Board accommodations are available: housing is available for Monday and Tuesday nights, and the following meals are included: Monday - lunch and dinner; Tuesday - breakfast, lunch, and dinner; Wednesday - breakfast and lunch. NOTE: Sign up for the camp first, and then fill out the form again but select the “Room/Board Accomodations options.”
